About Us
Promoters for Better Health is an organization of community leaders
Invested in their communities by promoting safe neighborhoods, strong families, and a better quality of life. The program’s mission is to bridge the clinical aspects of care directly with the underserved populations, while strengthening the community and empowering members.
The services that are provided include classes and training on nutrition, physical activities, chronic disease, first aid, diabetes, emergency preparedness, self-care and advocacy.
Promoters for Better Health serves vulnerable and undeserved communities in South California, including the Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.
Promoters share information about health,wellbeing and help families find the resources they need to make their neighborhoods a better place to live. The organization’s core value is “servicio de corazón”, which translates to “service from the heart”.
Additional training courses taught include:
- Disaster preparedness
- Nutrition
- Physical activity
- Leadership
- Advocacy
- Family caregiving
- Diabetes
- Hereditary breast cancer
This characteristic, along with many other unique traits and skills is critical to the success of Promoters’ outreach within communities.
Promoters receive interactive training, including adult education techniques, communication skills, and other important tools, enabling Promoters to provide outreach and education to the community. Some of the projects that our organization has been involved with include:
- Community forums about sugar content (Sweet and Healthy Neighborhood)
- Community promotion campaigns (Think What You Drink)
- Programs for parents and children’s (My Healthy Steps)
- Educational opportunities at schools (Parents Nutrition Academy)
- Program Lifestyle Coaches in Pomona, California
We address chronic conditions and being both personal advocates as well as family members within the healthcare system
Currently though we’re in partnership with the Latino Cancer Institute, UC Davis, and the University of California San Francisco focusing our efforts supporting our partners to conduct clinical trials and research concerning Hereditary Breast Cancer in Latinas while also spreading awareness to latino women in our beloved communities.
